In 2005, there was a Boston court clerk named Glen James, he lost his job and had spent 7 years living on the street and in shelters. One day, he found a backpack containing travellers’ cheques and cash amounting to more than $40,000. Rather than keep the money, he handed it all to the police – who later returned it to the grateful owner. Shortly after, the news of the Good Samaritan went viral.
Reading about James’ good deed, a stranger – Ethan Whittington set up a GoFundMe page to raise a reward. Donations flooded in from all around the world and amounted to the sum of over a $100,000.
A lot of people don’t know this, but when you sow the seed of love and kindness to others, its harvest is usually rewarding – Ask Glen James. So, as Princess Diana said; “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” For instance, a good place to start would be, being the “support” a person needs in a world where it seems there is a drought of compassion and empathy. It really doesn’t take much, just be kind and make that difference, for little drops of water makes a mighty ocean.
