How time flies… 90secondswithFBO is 2 years already. Seems like just yesterday when I shared and brainstormed the Idea with my team (Tope, Michael, Simi, Tosin and Banke) over Coffee.
It’s amazing how fast what started as just an Idea has built a community that inspires people globally.
“Ideas are easy, implementation is hard” – Guy Kawasaki
This quote reinforces a philosophy I hold very dearly. You see, I am an Ideas person and can tell you first-hand how difficult it is to bring any idea to fruition. In recent times, the journey of making 90secondswithFBO a reality has taken a lot of hard work from me and my team.
“The value of ideas lies in the using of it” – Thomas A Edison
Everybody has ideas. Sadly, most people quickly abandon or fail to make the best of their ideas when they consider the time, energy, cost and sacrifice that would be required to make it happen.
Here are 3 Practical Ways to Bring Your Ideas to Life.
1. Write It Down
“A dream written down with a date becomes a goal, a goal broken down into steps becomes a plan, a plan backed by action makes your dreams come true.” – Greg Reid
When I started toying with the idea of what would later become 90secondswithFBO, the first thing I did was to write it down in my notes. It did not matter that I didn’t have the full picture right there and then. Writing my thoughts down gave me something I could always ruminate over. Our thoughts become clearer when we write them down. Clarity is vital because it allows you to remain focused and also helps with streamlining the ideas you have by giving it a semblance of order and permanence. It is much easier to develop ways to bring your ideas to fruition when there’s a level of clarity.
2. Validate Your Ideas
After the clarity I gained from writing down my idea, I shared my thoughts with my team and a few trusted friends to get their opinion on the feasibility of the project. We went ahead to have several ideation sessions which helped in creating a framework around the idea.
When you have an idea, you should always put together a team to help you validate it. The quality of the team you put together is very important as they serve as midwives to birthing your dreams.
3. Start With What You Have
“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can” – Arthur Ashe
There will never be a perfect time or circumstance to start the implementation of your idea. Something would always be missing, you might not have enough resources (financial, human or otherwise) but you must start!. Always remember – too much analysis leads to paralysis. As I always say, Think Big, Start Small, Scale Fast.
Two years down the road, 90secondswithFBO now has a huge community of people that have been positively impacted. So, do you have an idea, no matter how big it is – follow these three steps, be willing to pay the price and watch your dreams become a reality.
