Start with the Right Mindset.
The butterfly is a natural metaphor for describing new beginnings and while it’s truly a fascinating work of nature, this transformation is pretty gruesome deep inside the chrysalis.
In fact, for a caterpillar to turn into a butterfly, it digests itself using enzymes triggered by hormones. I guess even mother nature knows that sometimes beautiful beginnings stem from uncomfortable processes.
I know 2020 was a very uncomfortable year, the pandemic in itself took a toll on everyone and this stretched us into the borders of the unknown. The challenges faced ranged from lockdowns to job losses, economic uncertainties, new modes of interactions via technology as well as the new skills needed to thrive during the past year.
It is often said that challenges are what makes life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes them meaningful. As such, “we must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey.” – Kenji Miyazawa.
So, see the past year as the fuel for this new year’s journey.
According to Neil Strauss; “great things never come from comfort zones.” There is a need to see the beauty in the pain just like the butterfly.
As a result, we need to see with new eyes and be filled with positive belief that 2021 is going to be a fantastic year.
So, see this new year as one with unbelievable possibilities and together we will make the best out of it!
Whilst we all want to quickly forget the past year, we need to look back, take stock and build through each storm. So, for you to make the best out of this new beginning there are 3 things I will like you to do.
- Make Peace with 2020
What does it mean to make peace? By making peace I’m not saying you should wallow in the past year and regret your decisions. No! Rather, I’m saying accept the learnings of 2020 as building blocks for a better 2021.
- Be Open-Minded
You need to walk into 2021 with the right mindset. Accept that things may not be the way they were before.
“Flexibility requires an open mind and a welcoming of new alternatives.” ― Deborah Day.So, you need a mind shift to thrive in this season. Be open minded and focus on the new reality. Don’t shut your mind to new ideas and opportunities for therein lies the pathway to your greatness.
- Be Ready for Change
What is change? Nathaniel Branden did say that; “The first step towards change is awareness and the second is acceptance” and I couldn’t agree more, as there is no readiness without either. Hence, in the view of Albert Einstein, your ability to change is seen in the measure of your intelligence. So, to be fully prepared in 2021, you must be ready for change by embracing a higher level of intelligence, open-mindedness and resilience. Friends, be ready to take advantage of the new year by acquiring new skills, unlearning, learning and/or relearning new ways of doing things in order to create positive trends of impact in any sphere you find yourself.
If you do all these 3 things I guarantee you that you will make the best of 2021.
Remember, You Have Only One Life to Live, MAKE IT COUNT.
